Can Kindle 3 Save our Rainforests?
The latest e-reader, called the Kindle 3 is about to make waves in the global book reading device department. It’s certainly going to make a big impact on the mass market and deservedly so. Kindle has made a lot of progress since it appeared in its basic form as the Kindle. Since then it has made “warp speed” development and is Smaller, faster, lighter and cheaper to boot. It’s a bit like saying that the new Kindle 3 is like a paperback compared to a clumsy hardback. It’s very affordable too and comes in at around £109.
Overall it has to be said that this is an excellent device but not without a few niggling criticisms. The ePub reading format is not supported, which basically means that you are tied to the Amazon ecosystem (which to be fair is a brilliant place to be). Of course the device needs a cover to give it complete protection but as far as I’m concerned, it’s all part of the fun. The non-fun bit is the price of the cover but it will be worth every penny. Last but not least is that the screen is not in colour, but hey, nor are the pages of your favourite paperback.
The Kindle 3 is certainly a discreet bit of kit and weighs in at a minute 8.7oz, which is less than your average paper back so it’s easy to hold without incurring any fatigue. When it comes to the screen, this has been improved with its e-Ink technology making reading as crisp as any printed book, even in strong sunlight. Page turning speed is much faster and on a par with the real thing. One of the most astonishing things is that the Kindle can now store up to 3,500 books and if you buy the 3G version, you get free access to Amazons extensive range of e-books wherever you are. This means you don’t need a computer or wifi network. Battery life is an exceptional one month and a really neat touch is that you can synchronise your place in a text across a range of devices, including phones and computers.
The increasing ability to read magazines and newspapers, play MP3′s and to round it all off, it will read out loud to you. There are also a wide range of accessories available for the kindle 3, such as a case which has a built in light, allowing you to read in the night time when there isn’t much light available. A kindle 3 case is also exactly what you will need when you want to transport the kindle 3 around. The Kindle 3 is also a PDF reader, which will allow you to read PDF’s on the screen without having to use a computer to do the same thing.
All in all, you are looking at the future with the new kindle 3, as it is going to revolutionise the way in which we will read books and articles for the future.
