Wanda Mckiver and her contributions

Wanda Mckiver, a writer, playwright, a producer, , a mother of five and the leading lady of the African American generation. She has taken the task of revolting against the shunned social and household practices that plague most of the African American communities. Wanda is the lamp that was lit in 1970, and since then she has been spreading light across the world. She loved literature since childhood, and has always been an ardent follower of stage. With her few but effective pieces of art, be it the novels or the poetry or for that matter, the stage play she produced in 2007, Wanda has always reflected her concern for the African American community. Born in New Jersey Wanda has grown up seeing elders resorting to violence more than often to prove their point. These childhood imprints grew deeper when she found some of the ladies in the houses of African American community, where beaten, molested and insulted. This was worsened by the fact that all of these facts were buried deep down and the loud world could hardly hear the voices of these struggling women.

Wanda through her writings has voiced the hidden pains of these African American women. She has thus gathered a tremendous fan following and people who read her books and poetry, often find themselves to be one of her characters. Because of the initiative she has taken, there should be no reason left for the people of her community not to support her wholeheartedly and embrace her thoughts with open arms. The African American community is a major community in the world’s greatest democratic country; they still are posed with questions pertinent to racism and policies of apartheid. The effect of these is direct on the communities themselves as they refrain from even discussing these issues in public or in loud words. Ms Mckiver however has pulsed the problem that every women faces and has seen the wound that most African Americans cover up, she has thus taken the charge and all she seeks is the support and the courage of her fellow beings.

She has brought out issues of suicide and child molestations in her novels titled ‘The Black Rose Diaries’ and ‘Beautiful’ simultaneously. The characters portrayed in both these fictional works are real life characters and incidents have a direct touch to every reader’s life. Wanda has always backed the release of a novel with group discussions on such topics of suicide and child molestations to understand how her peers feel about it. Wanda has taken the pledge single handedly and though a tiny spark may not light up the whole world, but it can definitely kindle a fire and guide everybody to the path less treaded upon. Wanda through her art seeks to be the voice of the choked, and courage of the defeated. She gives a wakeup call to the entire African community, and suggests that life is not a bed of roses, and that holding on to things for long might result in a ‘meltdown’.
