Seeking Your Way around Spain’s Many Architectural Treasures

Architecture tells a tender story about what a country has been through to get where it is now; it sounds overly adoring, but it’s true that the key to a country’s past is hidden in plain sight in the form of concrete and non-tangible cultural evidences. It’s just that architectural structures can easily be lost through wars, through the plunders of time, and by making way to the structures of a new era. A lot of Spain’s greatedt architectural pieces can be seen all over the country, so if it’s your first time there as a sightseer, it’s paramount to speed yourself and play your vacation well so that you can visit as many historic structures as you can.

When scheduling for your trip to Spain, it’s important to find a hotel where most of the places you want to visit first would be accessible. Such as, downloading audio files and training modules from Rocket Spanish and similar sites can offer you ways to learn the language while on the go. It could be useful to fire up a search engine and look at sites such as Rocket Spanish to ensure that you know a few Spanish sentences or phrases to help you express what you need and to help you ask locals for aid easily; make sure you know how to ask for directions to essential buildings like hospitals, police stations, and the embassy. Rocket Spanish is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.

If you ask the locals where you can find the oldest architectural structures in Spain, you’ll perhaps be pointed toward the Balearic Islands where there are structures dating back thousands of years ago during the Bronze Age. There are numerous structures that indicate how people have already been burying their dead and building tombs for them. Structures in this place are mostly made up of tombs and burial sites with different geometric shapes; there are also similar structures in the area which still exist and are still well-preserved, and they are used as defensive structures much like watch towers.

During the Roman period in Spain, a rise in religious buildings can be noted, which isn’t exactly a surprise, given that the Roman conquest also produced their strong religious influence on Spain. The most famous and iconic of which is the Aqueduct of Segovia which is still existing and relatively well-preserved so far. There were also a lot of other structures like the Aqueduct of Segovia which is, definitely, the best-preserved architectural monument representing the Roman era in Spain.

After the rise of Romanesque architecture, Spain’s architectural trend shifted to a more Gothic style, like the style used in building the Cathedral of Avila. This cathedral can be located in Old Castile, and was originally planned to be some sort of defensive turret that amplifies as a cathedral. The cathedral has certain influences taken from French and German styles of buildings.

There are more places that can get you better accustomed to the history of Spain through its architecture. Such is the power of history that one can comprehend the present more by understanding former times.
