A Synopsis of Spain’s Brilliant Architectural History
There are many things that can be familiarized with history, and a lot of the things that could tell you about history lies in non-physical artifacts such as language and music, or physical artifacts for example paintings, sculptures, and architectural structures. Spain is one of those countries that really put much store in protecting their cultural tradition through conserving architectural structures. One of the reasons why a lot of people love to visit Spain is that you can still teach a lot about Spain’s history by going around the well-maintained tourist spots and historical sights.
For tourists, one problem could be that there’s so little time to include the many historic buildings that compose Spain’s architectural culture. It’s important to know a little bit about the culture itself and what people there would consider to be foul and courteous; it’s also important to know how to get help when you need it because there’s nothing more distressing than being stranded in a foreign country without knowing who can help you out if you need it. A better way to find great deals and better travelling plans when you are in Spain is by asking the locals; of course a lot of them understand English, but there’s an advantage if you know how to speak Spanish which can be arranged by learning through sites like Rocket Spanish. Rocket Spanish lessons is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.
When you know a bit of the language, you’ll also be capable to ask residents concerning historic landmarks like the oldest structures in the country; one of the oldest structures known in Spain is the cluster of funeral chambers of the Balearic Islands. The structures in the Balearic Islands consist mostly of buildings erected during the Bronze Age; most of these structures are tombs and funeral chambers, and a few of them serve as defensive structures. Other prehistoric buildings also include the walled villages in Santa Tecla as well as Avila which, extremely enough, show something akin to urban planning because of the way the houses and streets are arranged in rational grids.
Roman influences can be seen in many cultures around the world, and Spain is no exclusion; the Roman influences in their structures translate to lighthouses, aqueducts, cathedrals, and graveyards. Rome’s conquests around Spain brought about a change in Spain’s religion, bringing with it a modification in the kind of architectural structures being built around Spain. One definite Roman-inspired architectural structure that still survives to this day is the Aqueduct of Segovia; once more, it is comparatively well-maintained, thanks to the effort of the government and other sectors.
As Spain evolves into a more Gothic style of architecture, some structures became an unique blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles. This cathedral is said to be the very first structure made in the manner of Gothic architecture. This cathedral also has the difference of being the very initial Gothic structure ever to be built in Spain.
There are many things that you can learn about a country’s history by observing the many different types of architectural structures that it has. Such is the power of history that one can comprehend the present more by understanding the past.
