Kindle Email Fees

To port over your personal documents to an amazon kindle, you have to pay money to amazon?!?!?

I am debating whether to get an amazon kindle because i have a lot of books in microsoft word format on my computer. It would be so tight to carry them around with me. BUT, i heard that i have to email all my documents + pictures over to the kindle and “for a small fee”, have amazon convert them to kindle format… WHAT is a “SMALL” FEE? Why can’t i just move them over like a usb stick? AND what about my music? can i send over my .mp3 files to the kindle? and how? or will they charge me for that too?

I have a kindle, and I have put personal documents onto my kindle. The kindle does not recognize that many document formats. So sometimes you have to have your documents converted to the kindle format.

The documents that are supported by kindle can be moved over to your kindle by simply connecting your kindle to your computer with the usb cable, and copy and pasting them onto the kindle. (the kindle does support .mp3s)

To get your documents converted to the kindle format you have to email them to Amazon. You would email them to: “name”@kindle.com Your document would then be sent through the wireless download service to your kindle.

The small fee is for the wireless delivery. That fee is 10 cents. You can avoid that fee by sending your documents alternatively to: “name”@free.kindle.com Instead of these documents being sent to your kindle, they will then would be sent back to your email address. At that point you can download the kindle format documents, connect your kindle to your computer, and copy and paste your documents to the kindle.

Make sure before you buy the kindle, that the file type you want to convert is available to be converted. Also the kindle is currently out of stock. So your kindle will not be shipped for about another 8-10 weeks (according to amazon).
