Can the Nook/Kindle take notes?

I want to get a nook or a kindle and can’t find a happy medium between them. I like the fact that the nook has a touch screen and is in color. But I really love the battery life of the kindle and wouldn’t mind having a keyboard so I have some questions.

How useful is the keyboard on the Kindle?
Is the battery life really true or are they overplaying it (Kindle)?
What about sharing the books?

My most important question though is can they take notes and highlight on textbooks and transfer them to a word document? That is the most important thing. Any advice would be appreciated!

The big problem with the color nook is that because it has a backlit it might strain your eyes. The kindle might not seem as fancy, but you can read it for hours on end, which if your buying an ereader is pretty important.
The kindle battery life is amazing, especially with wireless turned off. A large part of that is that the e-ink display uses very little power.

I’m not sure about transferring the notes to word, but yes you can take notes on the kindle. You can add notes to any book text – it puts a little number next to the text when you type notes and if move your kindle control to the number you can read the note. All notes are stored in a single file on the kindle which can be transferred to your desktop.

If your in the market for a kindle you might consider this crazy deal on a refurbished kindle 2 for just $110 shipped, include free 3g internet:

Or you could opt for the latest kindle 3, which has a slightly better display, web browser and smaller form factor:
