Can anyone tell me if the Kindle screen can self-illuminate for reading in low light?

Can’t seem to find that specific bit of info anywhere.

The screen of Kindle will adjust itself a bit according to the light of the environment, but it does NOT have backlight. Read the last paragraph here to see why:
