Kindle??? can someone tell me more about it?
thinking of buying it for my 14 yr old for christmas but no nothing about them with the 139 what can she do with it and it says it wifi so can she do the things she can do on her ds? just wondering there is a site she likes to go to and read the stories kids write was wondering if she would be able to do that on this and how many books will it hold
The Kindle is an electronic book reader. That means you have to download books to it in order to read them. Many books are free, if they are published before 1923 (if you are in the US–check for rules about public domain). Other books, you still have to pay for as usual (though usually at a lower price than traditional books). It holds about 3000-3500 books, depending on the sizes of the book files.
It is not like the DS at all…the DS is for playing games, but the Kindle is basically for reading. You can also use it to view web pages and listen to music, but those are bonus ‘experimental’ features, and the Kindle’s not that good for doing those things. I use mine only for reading.
I wouldn’t necessarily get it for someone unless they’re a *major* book lover, who doesn’t mind reading on an electronic device. Keep in mind that many bookworms out there like to read the traditional way–they prefer ‘real’ books. If your daughter prefers that, a Kindle may not be for her. However, it is handy for people who read a lot when they’re not at home–like if they take the bus every day, or go to coffee shops and read, etc. It’s quite handy because it’s so portable. You can also consider that it saves a) space, and b) trees, if those are concerns for you or your daughter.
So, just go with what your daughter’s tastes and interests are. You can always drop hints about it and see what she says. Good luck.
