A UK Fisherman’s Guide to Loading Up Your Fishing Tackle Boxes With Everything You Must Have
As you get ready for the beginning of the fishing season, half the fun is stocking up your tackle box with all the tools you’ll need to catch the big one. Even though you probably won’t forget to take line, bobbers, sinkers, hooks, and leaders, you might forget an essential item, the lack of which can ruin your outing. Here are a few things you absolutely must remember to add to your tackle box.
Fishing Tackle Boxes -Needle Nose Pliers
These make a terrific addition to your fishing equipment. This tool makes it easy to remove hooks from fish. Make sure to select one with an integrated cutter—you’ll be glad you did should you need to take off the end of a hook prior to taking the hook out of the fish. They are also good for crimping split shot and leaders onto your line.
Knife
You’ll want a powerful knife that can be utilized for an assortment of things. I’d recommend a pretty large blade made of stainless steel. A partly serrated blade provides you with maximum usefulness. It must also be durable enough to either clean or prepare the fish. A couple of excellent additions to have on a quality knife are a remover and a scaler~scaler and hook disgorger}.
File
You can use a file to sharpen both your knife and hooks, with some practice. Choose a small triangular shaped file with a different abrasive surface on each side. A number of fisherman like using a whetstone better, but these take more practice than a file.
Toilet Roll
Let’s be frank – if you need to use the bathroom, nothing works nearly as well. An entire roll of paper isn’t required. Unravel some and stick in inside a waterproof bag. But make sure to take enough—and while you’re add it, throw in some Kleenexes or paper towels. If a fire is needed on the trip, these items all burn quite well.
Fishing Tackle Boxes -Nail Clippers
Clippers normally come with a nail file which is also useful for making hooks sharp. You may also use the clippers for cutting the line.
Cigarette Lighter
Should you need to make a fire for some reason, this is an essential tool to have. Lighters can also be used to melt a plastic worm back together or repair the end of a nylon rope (to avoid fraying).
First Aid Kit
A portable kit that fits inside a pocket is your best option. The kit should include something to cleanse a wound, dress a wound, and/or kill the germs around a wound. Gauze pads and an Ace® bandage also are good to include. You should also carry a pain-killer such as Tylenol. And of course, no kit is complete without sunscreen.
Bug Repellent
Nothing can ruin a trip faster than being swarmed by bugs, so be sure to take the appropriate repellent with you.
Fishing Tackle Boxes -Travel-Size Snacks
Tuck a few energy or granola bars into your kit. Nuts and raisins can also make for a nourishing lunch.
Once you’re set with all this gear, you can concentrate on landing that trophy specimen!
