Displaying Ads for revenue in WordPress blog

We can generate revenue from our blog by displaying advertisement and promoting affiliate programs. Selling advertising is one of the popular methods of generating revenues. We can generate revenue by displaying Google AdSense or by promoting products as an Amazon associate. For displaying Google AdSense, we have to signup for an AdSense account. Google reviews our application and if it is approved, we can log into the AdSense home page.

We can also earn money through affiliate programs in Amazon Associates. Again, we have to first sign up to be an Amazon associate. After our application is approved, we can place links to different products on Amazon in our blog. The link contains a unique ID assigned to us by Amazon and when any of our referrals makes a purchase, we get some percentage of the sale. We can display the Amazon products in the form of banners at the top, mid or bottom of our blog posts. We can also display products on the sidebars.

On logging into the Amazon Associate’s member’s area, we get several options to choose from. Like, we are presented with links, Links & Banners, Widgets, Site Strips, etc. and we can choose the one that we want to display on our blog. On selecting a link, say Links & Banners, we are asked whether we want to link to a specific product or link to a banner that promotes the products belonging to an Amazon category. On choosing an option, say, banner we get a list of product categories to choose from. For example, on selecting a category say Kindle, we are provided HTML codes for banners of different sizes as shown in below given figure.

To display advertisements in the sidebars, we can directly copy the generated HTML code and paste it in a Text widget. To display, the advertisement at any location in our blog, using a plugin is the best option. To display an advertisement, I am going to use a plugin, Ad Injection by reviewmylife. Few of the features of this plugin are as follows:

• It can inject any kind of advertisement such as Google AdSense, Amazon Associates, ClickBank, etc.
• Advertisements can be injected into existing posts without modifying the posts.
• The number of advertisements can be set on the basis of the length of the post.
• We can restrict the advertisements to be displayed only on the posts that are defined numb roof days old.
• We can block IP addresses of the people whom we do not want to be able to see our ads
• We can position (left, right, center, etc.) our advertisement as per our desire.

On installing and activating our plugin, a message is displayed on the Plugins page at the top: Ad Injection needs configuring. Go to the settings page to configure and enable your ads. We can select the link provided in the message to access the Ad Injection’s Settings page. We can also access the plugin’s settings page by selecting the menu option, Ad Injection that is automatically added to the Settings menu on successful installation of the plugin.

The Ad Injection’s Settings page displays respective boxes for pasting the codes provided by advertisers for injecting advertisements in our blog. We can use these options to inject the advertisements wherever we want, in the mid of the posts, at the top of the post, bottom, on the sides. We can also configure the number of ads in a post, exclude certain posts from ads, display ads on selected types of posts, and so on.

On pasting the HTML code that is provided by the advertiser in the Optional top advert box with the options set as shown in below figure (a). The advertisement appears at the top of the post as appears in below figure (b).

Similarly, on pasting the code in Randomly Injected ad code box with the options set as shown in below figure (a), the advertisement may appear in the mid of our post as shown in below figure (b).

Hence, we can use Ad Injection for displaying ads at the desired places with the desired contents of our blog.
