Kindle DX & Kindle with Global Wireless – Differences & Similarities

The most clear difference between these two digital reading gadgets available to buy at this time is that just one works in the US while the “Global Kindle” works in countries all over the world. If you live somewhere besides the USA (or if you’re an American who frequently travels to other countries) then that makes your choice quite obvious; You have to get the Global Kindle Reading Device.

Besides that, the obvious difference between the two is that of their sizes. The Kindle DX is larger both as far it’s display size and how much memory it has. It is also much larger as far as it’s price.

While the DX is 9.7 inches, the Kindle with Global Wireless is just 6 inches. The larger screen is particularly helpful with newspaper subscriptions (it makes it more like reading a real paper.) On the flip side, the smaller size of the regular version may make it more easy to carry with you wherever you go.

There is also a large difference as far as memory. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Device can hold over 3000 books while the smaller version of this gadget can hold about 1,500 books, magazines, & newspapers. Although, who has more than 1,500 books?! I have a very difficult time imagining that this extra space to be necessary for the vast majority of potential buyers.

Another difference between these devices is the auto-rotating screen that the DX has.The DX also has a built in PDF reader that the smaller version does not have.

They both can download from a selection of approximately a half million books, magazines, and newspapers which can usually be purchased for lower prices than their paperback alternatives. These books can all be downloaded within just 60 seconds from anywhere (they have G3 wireless so there’s no need to search for wi-fi spots.)

Both kindles have text to speech software which can turn any book into an “audio book.”

Neither of these devices have any monthly charges to worry about. The way the wireless service works is a lot like the wireless service for a GPS. Once you get the gadget the wireless just works, there’s nothing else to worry about and no bills to pay.

They both have a basic web browswer that lets you surf the web from anywhere. This browser is meant for text based sites like Wikipedia and blogs. It’s not for pictures or videos.
