Spain’s Architectural Progress During the Centuries

Like other countries all over the world, the changes in Spain’s architectural trends say a lot about what occurred to them through the centuries. The meaning of olden times is something that the Spanish government understands as an essential part of their national identity; thus, a lot of effort goes into the preservation of historic attractions and architectural structures. It’s not a surprise that many people find Spain to be more than suited for a relaxing an educational vacation; it does not just boast of the most beautiful beaches and the most welcoming residents, it’s also quite a cultural immersion.

Preparing for a vacation in another country could vary depending on what country you will go to, but there are common resemblance that you can keep in mind. This includes being able to verbalize what you need in times of emergencies or in times of great need, like when you need a doctor, a cab, or instructions on how to get to the embassy. Before going to Spain, it would probably be best to learn a few key phrases prior to leaving so that you can be equipped for any eventualities; Rocket Spanish is an example of the many free language learning websites on the internet. Rocket Spanish or Bust is a Computer Assisted Language Learning that can help you speak Spanish fluently.

Until now, some of the deepest-rooted prehistoric architectures that can be found in Spain are in the Balearic Islands, Avila, and Santa Tecla. The buildings are crude, but they definitely already have a specific idea; such as, the structures in Balearic Islands are used as tombs and defensive structures to keep out invading tribes. There are also other prehistoric structures like the walled villages of Avila where structures like circular houses with thatched roofs have also been preserved.

During the time when Rome was dominating countries left and right, Spain encountered a change in their culture and this was reflected in their architecture as well. Such influences include a multiply in the building of churches like the temples of Cordoba and also of burial grounds like the modern ones we have nowadays. One of the most well-preserved symbols of the Roman influence on Spanish architecture is the Aqueduct of Segovia; until now, it still stands and is one of the main tourist attractions in Spain.

As the Roman era came to pass, additional inspirations arrived to the country, paving the way to French and German influences on Spain’s architecture. The Cathedral of Avila is an example of this alteration to a more Gothic influence in architecture; it still has some hints of Romanesque influences but the French and German influences are more apparent. It’s a cathedral that has delicate effects from Roman architectural trends but leans more towards the French and German influences.

The structures above only scarcely scratches the surface of what structures Spain’s amazing architectural fortunes. Spending the time to visit as countless structures as you can in your visit could be certainly worth your while.
