Kindle 2 Vs. Kindle 3?

I love my Amazon Kindle, and have put some thought into possibly selling mine (the Kindle 2) and getting the new Kindle 3. Is anyone else thinking about doing this? Also, I do have a question that I think is relevant to anyone thinking about “upgrading”…why is it that all of the comparisons done between the two models (2 and 3) is always based on the “original” Kindle 2, pre-software update? They advertise that the newest model (model 3) has 50% better screen contrast, and 20% faster page turns, but that was only prior to the newest software update that they have released for the Kindle 2…why is that?

Contrary to the other answer, if one loves to read, the Nook isn’t way better; but you already know that. Barnes and Noble being up for sale could mean there won’t even be a Nook at some point.

The comparisons relative to the contrast are a whole new e-ink technology called Pearl. The only other Kindle using Pearl is the newest DX. It’s a hardware upgrade, not software or firmware. Page turn speed is also part of the Pearl technology. One month battery with wireless turned off is also hardware and would especially be huge with the lighted cover.

I don’t know what K2s are going for but I know they sell. Some people want only the AT&T 3G, but there are others who are specifically looking for the Sprint model. I also don’t know whether you’d want the 3G and wi-fi, or just the wi-fi. In either case, you’d have to be the one to determine if upgrading is worth the cost of that one less the amount you’d get for your K2. Or you might decide to keep it or gift it to a family member or friend, or just to have a backup. It’s ultimately going to be an individual choice based on mostly variables that only you know.
