Writing And Editing An EBook – Second Part

The first part of this article was about the writing process for an eBook  in eight days and the need to leave it before editing it ”Web Marketing For Estate Agents“. This second part takes the process on further into the editing phase and making it look good.

Editing

In the course of the two days of letting it stew I knew that I had to change a couple of things. A few of the tools I habitually use in my business I hadn’t included so they were added in, some things were taken out as they weren’t absolutely essential and some typos, bad choice of words and grammar were changed. The rough copy was sent out to four friends for feedback, they are still friends, and they were totally positive about what was in it giving me further ideas for development.

Prettyifying

Making it look good is a major part of the edit in an ebook. The font chosen was clean and easily readable, Hiragino Mincho ProN, (Which was a new one on me but looks great on both the page and iPad) and got the images using the website sxc.hu and my on photos taken using the Sony a230 and the Kodak Zi8.

Issues

  • Currently after just eight days it has no good ecover. If you want to help me do one just holler
  • The Kindle version I have uploaded looks horrible. If anyone can help with making it look good then again shout.
  • The epub version caused many problems with image placements meaning that it is not possible to go to the page edges. Therefore it doesn’t look as good as the actual PDF version of the book.
  • If anyone can tell me how to incorporate individual app store links to tools rather than a generic app store link that would also be cool.

 Selling the Book

I put an initial version of the sales page up at www.realestateprotips.com sucked according to a couple of friends, they are still friends. One suggested I really should tell the story behind the book. So I did it. And you can find it there right now. Another told me why no video? You do video really well. So the video telling the story is now there. Hopefully the copy is interesting, it has the large buy now buttons and hopefully the headline and story resonate. Some split tests will be upcoming when we look at conversion. The theme is Optimize Press. The learning curve for Optimize Press is relatively steep despite having excellent videos to guide you but if you are comfortable in WordPress then it shouldn’t be too bad. Optimize Press is a very flexible theme you can use for product launches, sales pages, embedding videos and a whole lot more. Optimize Press just gets better and better and at what i think is still just $97 it is great value.

In the next and final article about the process of writing an eBook we will talk about promoting the book and getting affiliates to promote it for you
