Downloading E-books for Kindle through the internet?

Okay, so here’s the deal. I’m living in a country that doesn’t have Whispernet coverage and doesn’t support the worldwide amazon coverage either. So, a friend of mine got me an Amazon Kindle on xmas, registering it with his name. I cannot connect to the Kindle Store, obviously, and i cannot reregister the Kindle to my account through Amazon. At the same time as far as i understand you can download kindle books from the Amazon to your PC and transfer them into the Kindle via PC. how exactly does one do that? Also, is it okay that the Kindle’s registered to the friend’s account, since i cant use the direct Wireless connection anyway?
