Kindle And Nook Both Have Their Enthusiasts.
There are many electronic book readers currently on the market, all of which claim superiority and vie for users’ attentions and wallets. Everyone wants to feel they’re getting (or have gotten) the best deal out there, whether they’ve chosen Apple’s iPad, Barnes and Noble’s Nook or Nook Color, Sony’s Reader, Amazon’s Kindle or any of a host of electronic readers currently on the market. Both are excellent at the job of bringing the written word into the electronic realm and allowing people to peruse the books they love—hundreds or even thousands of them—all on a single device.
The field is narrowing somewhat, however, to the two most popular—not counting the iPad, which isn’t really a dedicated eReader—to kindle vs nook. There are differences between the two formats, though, and it’s a good idea to do a little homework before making a purchasing decision when it comes to Nook vs Kindle.
Though you will find many resemblances if this involves nook vs kindle, it’s their variants which characterize them. Amazon’s Kindle has been around longest, and has been through at least three transformative upgrades since its inception. Now on version 3, the Amazon Kindle 3 is by far the most satisfying model to date. Older models also were hampered by slow page turns and buttons that defied any sense of ergonomics.
Additionally, early models were clunky when it came to page turns and the buttons were not friendly to human fingers. Most of these issues have been addresses in the much improved version 3. The ability to easily read displayed text and graphics even in bright sunlight is one of the things which set E-ink readers apart from multi-purpose tablets like the iPad.
Both provide a bright and easy to read 6-inch E-ink Pearl screen provides a clear, easy reading experience on even the sunniest day. First off, performance on the device is sluggish and even tedious at times when compared to other devices in its price range.
This E-ink design provides a far superior daylight reading experience to traditional tablet computers like the iPad. Though both readers maintain a large and devoted following, in the Kindle vs Nook argument, the Kindle adherents may have more talking points, at least at the moment.
The Nook, though a beautiful, elegant device, is somewhat lacking on many fronts. Navigating through Barnes and Noble’s online Website in a search for new reading material is somewhat difficult on the Nook, which features a touch screen, color strip across the bottom of the page and an E-ink display above.
Page turns sometimes seem to take forever and navigating the company’s online bookstore feels a little like pulling teeth at times.
Reading for long periods of time is a real pleasure, at least once you’ve managed to locate your book on the device’s library’s virtual shelf and get it loaded into memory. A bright, clear screen allows for hours of reading without eye strain. The device is small, thin, lightweight and extremely comfortable to hold for long periods of time. {In fact, other than the slow page turning issue, the Nook probably provides a more comfortable reading experience.} {A clear screen and attractive design go a long way toward enhancing its operation.} {Both companies provide extensive collections of downloadable content at their Websites, though navigation can at times seem a bit labyrinthine.}
